Semillas Batlle started operating in 1802 and, since then, it has had a constant evolution in the specialised agriculture field by producing and distributing seeds.
Yet, in the past few years, we have gone through a significant expansion process, offering our brand-new products to the growing vegetable and regular garden (hobby) market.
Large Crops are our traditional and original work, in which we embrace all the process: investigation, variety collection, plant conservation, production, selection and distribution of extensive cultivation seeds, including cereals, meadows, alfalfas, corns, vetches, sunflowers, etc. We serve the domestic market and we export to Europe, northern Africa and Central and South America.
At this moment in time, we obtain, conserve, produce, select and distribute the majority of extensive crops:
1. OBTAINMENT
We plan to research and develop various species, such as: alfalfa, vetches, pea, haboncillo, sunflower, fodders, meadow mixes, etc.
All without leaving behind our classical improvement programme of winter/spring cereals.
2. CONSERVATION
Every year, with the maximum technical rigor, we conduct conservation programmes of our varieties, from the first generations PB5 (G0) to the Base seed (G4). We carry out the preservation process mainly in our private facilities in Bell·lloc (Lleida).
3. TESTS
We annually conduct hundreds of comparative tests with the existent varieties in the market, to ensure that our varieties are truly leaders. These tests are executed in our research station in Bell·lloc and other locations of the Mediterranean geography. By doing so, we ensure its adaptation to the climate and edaphic conditions of our territory and environment.
4. PRODUCTION
We deliver the technical seeds to our collaborative farmers in order to produce the certified seeds. For that purpose, we have a wide and trained technical team that assists them. The productions are done in various parts around the national territory and other countries in the EU. By doing so, we ensure the required quantities are used in cases of climate anomalies and we prioritise our farmers all around the territory.
5. RECEPTION AND SELECTION
We receive the harvests through a chain of silos. At the entrance, a rigorous control of variety, pureness and germination is done to the seeds. Once this first and basic step is completed, we proceed to select the seeds with the adequate equipment according to the selected species. We have modern and efficient machinery and we complete the selection with the latest equipment for the treatment and calibration. The colorimetric selector allows us to offer a seed of complete quality and trust.
6. PACKAGE AND STORAGE
Once the seed is selected it is packaged in bags, waiting to be sold. We have a strong informatic system which guarantees the traceability of the seed from its conservation until the finished product. This traceability process also allows us, with its lot number, to know its origin and additional data shown in the rigorous post-control of each lot.
