IRRIGATED MASPRADO BATLLE

“LONG-LASTING PERMANENT MEADOWS”

Semillas Batlle offers a wide variety of mixtures well adapted to the different soil and climatic conditions of the Iberian Peninsula. 

Irrigated MASPRADO is the best solution for producing long-lasting quality grass for grazing or cutting during the spring and summer. A rigorous choice of the most adapted, persistent, and productive varieties guarantees grass of high quality, energy, and digestibility, which also  improves the structure of the soil by increasing organic matter, reducing erosion, and improving the water cycle. 

To ensure a long persistence of the irrigation meadow, the following operations need to be secured:

CROP MANAGEMENT

  • Sowing season: From September to November.

For an efficient symbiosis between legumes and the rhizobium, soil temperature must not drop below 10ºC.

  • Background fertilizer: 

Soil analysis is an essential instrument for a more efficient operation.

Recommendations: 70 to 120 units of P2O5; eventually 70 to 120 units of K2O 

  • Fall grazing: When the land and grass allow it, grazing  should be of short duration and with a high stocking rate to clean weeds.
  • Spring flowering:The meadow should not have animal presence when the first flowers are observed in order to create all the necessary seeds for the coming years. An extensive seed bank guarantees long persistence.
  • Elimination of dry grass: The dry grass created during the spring completely disappears before the first rains of next autumn due to the action of grazing, reducing the obstacles to the nascence of new plants. .

Intermittent or rotational grazing: After the first autumn rains, when the plants are large enough. 

Crop fertilizing annually or every two years, generally with 30 to 60 P2O5 units and eventually 30 to 60 K2O units. A permanent long-term irrigated crop with abundant legumes can provide at least 200 units of nitrogen to the soil, increasing soil fertility and the use of the nutrient by other species in the meadow.
