BATLLE VEGETABLE COVERS

Semillas Batlle has developed a wide range of mixtures considering the benefits it can bring to the main crop. 

A rigorous choice of the most adapted and persistent varieties guarantees a vegetal cover that improves soil structure, increases fertility, increases organic matter, reduces erosion, and improves the water cycle. In addition, it improves access for the machinery needed for primary crop operations.

CROP MANAGEMENT 

To ensure a long persistence of the cubierta, it is needed to divide the management during the first year and second year/following:

FIRST-YEAR

  • Sowing season:  From September to November. Soil temperature must remain above 10ºC, so an efficient symbiosis between legumes and the rhizobium can occur
  • Spring flowering:  Only in the first year, the cover must be reserved for the creation of the seed bank, which guarantees long persistence.
  • Elimination of dry grass: The dry grass created during the spring should be completely removed mechanically before the first rains of the following autumn to eliminate obstacles to new plant sprouting.

SECOND YEAR AND FOLLOWING YEARS
