DESCRIPTION

  • Biennial plant.
  • Deep taproot, succulent leaves, and stems with hairy undersides.
  • Flowers:Red to pink 
  • Seeds: flat seed, cream to light brown
  • Thousand seed weight (TSW): 4.3 to 5.2 g

FEATURES

  • Adapted to moderately acid soils and alkaline soils.
  • No tolerance for flooded or saline soils.
  • Contains tannins, giving the species an unusual anti-tympanic capacity.
  • Deep root system allows the plant to stay green during the spring.
  • Produces hay and silage quality 

SOWING 

  • Sowing Period: September to November
  • Sowing Rate:
    • Pure: 5 – 10 kg/ha hulled and 20-40 kg/ha hull seed
    • Mixture: 2– 5 kg/ha hull, depending on the species.
  • Compatible species: species for annual and temporary mixtures, for use by cattle or for hay. 
  • Inoculant: Specific group “Zulla”
