COTTON is an essential crop for the textile industry, although other high-value by-products are also obtained from it, such as essential oils, cellulose, animal feed, etc.

Cotton is widely adapted to a wide range of soils in the Mediterranean climate due to its needs, temperature, and hours of sunlight. However, it needs an irrigated field to obtain the maximum potential yield. 

Cotton is grown as a rotation crop in some regions of Andalusia and Extremadura as an alternative to spring cultivation.
